Resurrection! I was once blind, but now I can see! The Story of US
"Ephesians 2:5 -made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved."
Resurrection: the action or fact of resurrecting or being resurrected; the revitalization or revival of something.
Easter Sunday is all about RESURRECTION; I call it Resurrection Sunday! Easter is about Jesus, our savior who paid the price for our sins so that we can live a life reconciled, forgiven and in freedom of sin. Because of Jesus we GET to live in eternity with our Father! A savior! But truly for me everyday is Easter, everyday is about Resurrection and I believe that everyday for a Christian should be about the cross.
You see, I know about resurrection thru what Jesus has done in mine and Juans life, in who we used to be; living a life of destruction, addiction, bondage and death. Our lives now look nothing like the darkness that was! Are we Perfect? NO! We are a constant work in process until the day we meet Jesus face to face in person and our flesh is no longer.
Philippians 1:6- being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Juan and I met outside of a night club completely intoxicated May 31st 2008. Juan and a few people had just gotten into a huge physical fight and it was a known thing that someone would fight after leaving the club so people would stand around to watch the action as if it were a movie or something. I noticed Juan right away, maybe because he was over 6ft or maybe because he ripped his shirt off in anger (yall I was not saved). After this massive fight I just remember going up to him and giving him my phone number. Quickly after we went on our first date June 5, 2008 and little did I know what would follow shortly after.
Juan lived in an inner city area that for me living in the suburb seemed exciting. Our relationship became serious pretty fast and we would spend everyday together doing what we did when we met, going to nightclubs and drinking. Life got crazy and before I knew it we were drinking and smoking every day and hanging around people that liked to do the same. Every day was a party until I would wake up the next day and feel horrible about myself. I couldn’t get out of bed without drinking. Without drinking, I felt numb. I became severely depressed. It was like I was living this “dream party life,” and on the outside it looked like “fun,” but on the inside everything was dark, and empty and it seemed like there was no reason to live.
A few years after the same cycle, God intervened. A long time friend of mine invited me to her church and I had finally promised her that I would go. Juans barber who is also a long time friend of his invited him to his church to watch him sing worship and Juan finally agreed to go. We soon found out that we were both invited to the same church and went together. It was the first time we had stepped into a church together or even knew anything about Jesus. That day we gave our lives to Christ thru a salvation prayer but not truly in our hearts.
It seemed as if after we were "saved" our life got harder. We struggled so much because we were in a constant battle of wanting to do what’s right and living a life for God and living in the world surrounded by drugs and alcohol. So what changed.. We begged. We pleaded and cried out to the Lord and He started changing situations. Our old friends no longer wanted to hangout because we weren't drinking so God brought in many new friends, friends that loved us in our mess, counseled us and prayed with us and help teach us his word. Soon after the Holy Spirit began to convict our thoughts and actions and we starting become free of our addictions. (yes we were still in the church and battling with addictions) You see it wasn't until we started seeking Jesus and a relationship that everything changed. We began to find our identity in the cross and we married June 5, 2015 and God has used out testimony in incredible ways, around the world to make his name famous.
A RELATIONSHIP with the living God, communication, communion, intimacy is what giving Christ your heart looks like. Let me tell you once you taste and see that the Lord is good, you can NEVER be the same! You can't help but begin to tell people about JESUS, about this love that lives in you and has transformed your heart and desires. You cant help but SHOUT the name of Jesus, the savior who recklessly loves, forgives, pursues you into this relationship. When you fall in love with Jesus you begin to see everything thru what I call the JESUS filter. The lens you see thru is clear and you begin to see the pain and suffering in the world and cant help but become the answer.
No matter what you have done, thought, said, or lived, God can and will use it for good. I have found myself in a lot of conversations that ended up with me telling my testimony and praying for someone who went through similar situations. If there is one thing I want you to understand and know it’s that God’s love for you is not earned. Your identity can only be found in Christ alone. You are made in His image; God doesn’t make mistakes. What Satan intended for bad, God will restore that brokenness, breathe new life into you, and break any addictions. You are worthy of it all. Don’t give up! I love God more than anything and He saved a life I didn’t care for. He has plans for you, plans for a bright future! IN JESUS NAME!
Love has a name and that name is Jesus! Because of the Resurrection and the tomb that was empty on that third day we get to LIVE! TO GOD BE THE GLORY FOR EVERYTHING WE ARE! I pray that our lives are in constant surrendered to Jesus and everything we do advances the Kingdom of God. God is no respecter of person and what he has done for us he can and will do for you and much much more in Jesus name!
You are WORTHY!
